student pastor

The Student Pastor is the leader of the Student Ministry. This person will work within the church staff to oversee and maintain an effective ministry for middle and high school students, providing a safe and life-giving environment for them to explore faith and life together. The Student Pastor is passionate about cultivating love for Jesus in the hearts of students and building relationships with them and their families to promote the mission of God in Granbury.


Reports to: Associate Pastor


Compensation: Commensurate with education and experience, comes with full insurance benefits, 5% matching retirement, and expense account

  • Bachelor’s degree required, seminary degree preferred



  • Work within the overall church staff to create unified and holistic church ministry by participating in all staff meetings and events

  • Create and maintain a vision for FBG’s student ministry

  • Develop and oversee a college ministry as time and opportunity permit

  • Plan and oversee a full year calendar including events and curriculum that aligns with the overall church vision in coordination with church staff

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and lead a Student Ministry Team of adults to help execute the work of the ministry and meet with them once a month

  • Provide leadership and oversight to all student ministry volunteers

  • Lead training sessions for all student ministry volunteers at quarterly CORE events

  • Cultivate an environment where students from all backgrounds and walks of life feel welcomed, valued, and loved

  • Develop relationships with students and be a presence of love, kindness, and leadership in their lives

  • Develop relationships with parents of students and support them as the primary disciplers of their kids

  • Develop relationships with community educators and leaders to have a greater local impact

  • Seek to create intersection between the student ministry and other areas of the church, intentionally fostering intergenerational relationships and overall church unity

  • Engage with students and parents outside of church events, attending school and homeschool events and other community events where students are likely to be present

  • Organize and lead effective student programs promoting fellowship, worship, outreach, discipleship, and mission opportunities

  • Provide primary pastoral care to leaders, parents, and students as needed (you are their go-to person)

  • Develop and maintain a system for consistently communicating with all student ministry volunteers, providing clear leadership and creating progressive dialogue for those who serve in your ministry

  • Develop and maintain a system for consistently communicating with parents and students, keeping them apprised of ministry programming and plans, inspiring partnership and involvement, as well as providing resources to encourage at-home discipleship

  • Explore and pursue collaboration with other local churches and ministries for large-scale events that engage the wider community in outreach

  • Create and oversee the student ministry portion of the church budget

  • Purchase, oversee, and maintain all systems, equipment, and supplies needed to execute the work of the student ministry

  • Manage all student ministry social media accounts in order to provide consistent communication as well as creating brand recognition and a relevant reputation in the community

  • Be committed to continuing education and staying current with student ministry practices by reading books, listening to podcasts, corresponding with other church leaders, attending conferences, etc.

  • Be plugged into the life of the church beyond the student ministry (small group, QBM, churchwide events)

  • Other duties as assigned by the pastors
